ABOUT THE CLOSE FAMILY
At the heart of Kurra-Wirra is family. Robert & Bernadette Close have successfully grown and expanded Kurra-Wirra and raised their five children (Christopher, Simon, Anthony, Michael & Anna-Grace) on the land. After a long and fulfilling career in nursing, supporting the farms administration and raising her children, Bernadette sadly passed away in 2022 and is greatly missed.
Robert Close, along with sons Simon, Anthony and Michael are now the managing directors of Kurra-Wirra. Whilst each oversee different enterprises; Stud & Commercial Cattle (Simon), Stud Sheep (Anthony) and Commercial Sheep (Michael), they share a genuine passion for their land and animals and are involved in all aspects of the business. With the support. knowledge and guidance of Rob, they are now growing their own families, and are dedicated to the continuation of this intergenerational farming business.

ROBERT CLOSE
​
Rob was born and raised at Kurra-Wirra. His knowledge of the science of skins, wool quality and genetic selection is one of the best in the business.
SIMON CLOSE
​
Simon's background in financial planning and accounting supports the Kurra-Wirra business. He is passionate about the Red Cattle genetics and breeding a diverse range of premium cattle.

Simon is married to Kathryn who supports the farms administration and works as a Physiotherapist and Teacher. They have two children, Alice & Harry.
ANTHONY CLOSE
​
Returning to Kurra-Wirra after completing an Agricultural Science degree, Anthony's passion and involvement in the merino industry has gone from strength to strength. He was awarded a Nuffield Scholarship in 2019.
​
Anthony is married to Bridget who supports the farms administration and cropping program, and is an Agronomist at Kalyx. They have a son, Oliver.
MICHAEL CLOSE
​
After finishing his AFL career with the Brisbane Lions, Michael completed a Bachelor of Agribusiness at Marcus Oldham College. He has a passion for animal nutrition and the management of sheep, cattle and pastures.
​
Michael's fiancée Lauren supports the farms administration and works as a Pharmacist.
